How Silk Was Discovered
It is said that Empress Hsi Ling Shi, wife of Emperor Huang Ti, discovered silk as weavable fiber accidentally. One day, a cocoon fell into her cup and began to unravel when she was sipping tea under a mulberry tree. Then, she discovered their source, and found the Bombyx mori silkworm in the white mulberry. After that, she developed sericulture as well as the cultivation of silkworms. And finally, she invented the reel and loom.
