What Insect Makes Silk
Although only the silk of moth caterpillars has been used for textile manufacturing, silk is produced by several insects. For instance, webspinners and raspy crickets produce silk throughout their lives. Hymenoptera, silverfish, mayflies, leafhoppers, beetles, lacewings, fleas, flies, and midges can produce silk. Besides, other types of arthropod like spiders can also produce silk.
