How to repair a run in a new silk nightgown?
Silk is luxurious and beautiful. However, silk clothes are often easy to hook up because of zippered pants or skirts that you wear them. If you encounter a run, you can try a few easy steps to repair it.
- Evaluate the damage and see how bad it is. If it’s caught, you should carefully remove the zipper from the silk blouse. Do not pull the fabric as it will cause the run to extend much like pantyhose.
- If you are not at home, you can do some temporary measures. For instance, apply some nail polish on the hole and the length of the run to freeze it to prevent it from becoming larger. Do not use a blow dryer or other heat source to dry it because this could cause the fabric to melt.
- To match the fabric or thread, you can take the blouse to a fabric store. You can try re-weaving the existing structure, or you can replace the entire panel where the run is running. If you are not skilled at fine, you had better place the fabric. First, buy a silk fabric and take off the damaged panel. Second, use it as a model and cut the new fabric, and use the same stitch pattern and thread sewn back into place.
- If you have no sewing skills, you should take it to your dry cleaner or tailor to re-weave or fix it. However, do not let the dry cleaner clean it because the dry lotion may damage the nail paint part of the blouse.
