How Silk is Made: From Silkworm to Silk Fabric
Silkworms eggs bear a strong likeness to poppy seeds.
Larva (Caterpillar) Stages
Eat lots of fresh mulberry leaves. Approximately 1 month.
Cocoons >> Silk threads >> Silk Fabric
A silkworm cocoon is one continuous strand of silk approximately 300m – 900m in length. Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, individual long fibres are extracted from cocoons and fed into the spinning reel to make silk threads, and then, various types of silk fabric.
We collect silkworm cocoons in Chinese villages and we have factories out there. China is responsible for most of the world’s silk production.
