Down comforters offer the ultimate in comfort. But, if your down comforter has been used for 10-15 years, it won’t offer this comfort. Now, it’s time to change your down comforter. Try doing some test if you don’t know whether you should replace your down comforter.
- Remove down comforter from the duvet cover.
- Hold the down comforter up to the light.
- Check the areas where the down has started to dissipate.
- You are just sleeping under two layers of cotton and very little down if you see a lot of missing down in the center compartments, and now you should change it.
Alternatively, you can watch the shoulder compartments and look for signs of wear in this area. You have a tendency to wear these areas out if you sleep on your side. If you likely tossing and turning during sleeping, it will cause the down clusters to abrade and slowly migrate out of the comforter shell. It’s time to change the old down comforter with a new one when the shoulder compartments start to go.
Down comforters are not cheap in price. Why do they wear out? Friction is inevitable. Before the down turns into dust, friction is just a matter of time. It will not happen overnight.
Rotate the down comforter regularly. You are not always curling up under the same end if you flip your down comforter regularly.
In order to reduce the amount of friction, please avoid spending much time on the top of your down comforter. To keep your own weight from breaking up the down over the course of time, you can spend more time underneath your down comforter instead of on top of it.
